iHobby Expo

iHobby Expo was pretty cool. Its the largest outreach I've done so far. I learned a lot. The Hobby RC crowd was actually pretty interested in what we were doing. That was a little bit of a surprise. I think we'll get at least a couple new members out of this. Woot!

Did you get a chance to see any of the robots or robot kits, like the Futaba, at iHobby Expo? I'd be very curious to know your impressions.

I missed the Futaba unfortunately. I didn't think about it. I guess after I saw Hi-tech there with a non-working RoboNova I figured that the servo people did not send their robot people. I'm kinda bummed about that oversight, but it was very busy for us all through out the show.

However, I did see the Robotis Bioloid. That is a WAY cool robot kit! I like that it has an erector set sort of feel. There are extra screw holes all over the servo brackets. The servos themselves are smooth. The one kit can thus build myriad forms from a biped to a hexaped. (The spider was cool) They even have a small kit for $400. Most of all, the servos are daisy-chained TTL serial and the manual has the whole protocol in there as well as a C lib so that you needed bother with the message encoding yourself. (If you can hack C.)

I wish I owned one! I gotta watch the money a little right now, but one day I will own one!
